Active Minds

Nicole's Testimonial

Nicole Kacmar from Active Minds at Stevenson University says:

nicole_kacmar_stevenson "Active Minds became a part of Stevenson University in the fall of 2008, thanks to the efforts of Raechel Manly. Raechel's vision and dream has grown tremendously in the past couple of years. Our chapter of Active Minds held its first successful National Day Without Stigma in the fall of 2009, and due to the success of this event, awareness in our school and the surrounding community has increased exponentially.  People stop our members on a daily basis and ask about our organization, hoping to become involved in raising awareness of mental health issues.

I personally became involved in Active Minds because of the stress I felt as an incoming freshman.  I knew that there were other students who would feel the way I did and I wanted to be a part of something that could change that experience. I know now that our chapter helps not only incoming freshmen, but also other students, faculty, and staff around campus.

The Stevenson campus is always on the lookout for upcoming events from Active Minds. Our chapter is fairly new; however, we are striving each day to reach more and more individuals.  The members of our organization spend countless hours developing new ideas to inspire and get the school and community engaged in learning more about mental health. I am proud to say that with each passing day, the members of Active Minds at Stevenson University continue to spread the word and start the conversation about mental health."

darrin_ward_uc_riverside_june_2010 "It is so important to reach that hand out to someone when he or she is feeling down or provide an ear so someone's story can be heard.  Active Minds is more than just another student organization- it's a community of people who are dedicated to mental health outreach."
