Director, Active Minds Speakers Bureau

Active Minds is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Active Minds Speakers Bureau, a full-time, management-level position based at the organization's headquarters in Washington, DC. The primary responsibility for this role is to direct and manage the Active Minds Speakers Bureau, a key revenue-generating arm for Active Minds Inc. The AMSB Director develops, manages, and assesses all programming related to the Speakers Bureau. Management of the Bureau falls into several main functions such as:

  • Creation of business plan to scale existing program into robust social enterprise
  • Client/event host engagement and development, consultation to ensure fit, and negotiation of service contracts
  • Stewardship of planned engagements, including oversight of logistics, and facilitation of speaker and client communication
  • Development and implementation of strategic marketing and communications efforts to cultivate new business opportunities, drive revenue and raise organizational reputation and public profile
  • Financial oversight including programmatic accounting, creation and stewardship of financial budgets; maintenance and analysis of program summary, evaluation and sales data to leadership
  • Design and implement benchmarks to measure and evaluate program efficacy, client satisfaction and assess overall programmatic success
  • Manage, analyze, and present program summary, evaluation, and sales data to senior leadership peers and organization's Board of Directors.
  • Participate on organization's senior management team to collaborate on operations and growth; development of key partner relationships; expansion of programmatic initiatives and reach, and inform staff-wide projects/efforts.
  • Work with colleague to manage recruitment and training process; coaching and facilitating employee management (HR) of Bureau speakers (currently 12)
  • Strategic direction-setting for the recruitment of new speakers, local and regional partnerships for increased engagement sales, and overall forward-thinking to ensure the Speakers Bureau continues to serve as a primary revenue-generating and mission-setting arm of the nonprofit organization.

Required Experience:
Bachelor's degree or higher in business, marketing, communications, public health or a related field and 4+ years relevant professional experience required. Experience working in business development, sales, and with institutions of higher education, school districts, or national student-oriented affinity groups preferred.

Development Coordinator

Active Minds is seeking to hire a full-time Development Coordinator. Reporting to the Development Director, this position works closely with the marketing and communication team, programs team, Student Advisory Committee and chapter volunteers. The Coordinator will support all aspects of Active Minds fundraising to meet the annual fundraising goal.

The Development Coordinator will be someone who is creative, motivated to produce a high volume of accurate and detailed work, customer-oriented, adept at multi-tasking and problem-solving, and interested in helping the Development Director implement new systems and strategies to strengthen the development program as a whole. S/he is the key point person for critical tasks related to stewarding volunteer fundraising while supporting long-term relationships with our diverse audiences.

Responsibilities Include:

Individual Donor Program

  • Assist with direct mail appeals, acknowledgements and other donor communications;
  • Provide support for donor membership program and new fundraising initiatives;
  • Manage and create support plan for Stomp Out Stigma Walk program;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of donor stewardship and cultivation strategies.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Guide essential functions related to student chapter fundraising, including but not limited to: outreach to student chapter leaders, facilitate understanding of requirement guidelines and benefits, and onboard new student chapters;
  • Create and manage volunteer recognition and stewardship activities that support and ensure volunteers continue their relationship and remain engaged and active;
  • Identify and recommend relevant and well-aligned content to support a robust and engaging online learning tool for volunteers, in alignment with identified volunteer development needs;
  • Assist with the planning of our National Mental Health on Campus Conference.

Communications

  • Assist with content production of annual newsletter, collateral materials, website updates, regular e-communications, and social media;
  • Coordinate with Communications on efforts to cultivate new engagement touch points with students, advisors and community supporters across the country
  • Respond to donor and volunteer inquiries.

Special Events

  • Assist with planning, coordination and execution of fundraising events (Washington DC and New York annually);
  • Must be comfortable representing and speaking publicly on behalf of the organization;
  • Manage registration systems, reporting, and all necessary follow up.
  • Design event materials such as invitations (print and online), signage, webpages, etc.

Data Management

  • Manage Salesforce/Convio CRM, including generating standard reports and creating additional reports as requested;
  • Analyze and present program summary, evaluation, and fundraising data to supervisor, peersand Senior Leadership;
  • Create and manage learning outcomes for group or community engagement;

Administrative Support

  • Troubleshoot and provide customer service support for peer-to-peer fundraising platform, www.MyActiveMinds.org;
  • Understand donation processing and data entry to serve as backup as needed;

Required Experience and Competencies:

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in business, marketing/communications or related field and 2 years of post-graduation work experience; strong proofreading, critical thinking, written and oral communications, customer service, organizational skills, and fundraising experience are also required; must have a positive attitude and be a team player who can work in a fast-paced environment with a heavy workload and limited supervision; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Internship Opportunities

We review internship applications on a rolling basis for Fall, Spring and Summer internship positions: Fall application review begins in March and ends July 31. Spring application review begins in October and ends December 15. Summer application review begins in February and ends May 1.

Business Operations Intern: 

The Business Operations intern supports the Active Minds Speaker Bureau department, a social enterprise within Active Minds, Inc. In this internship, one can expect to perform a variety of tasks relating to: Marketing & Promotion, Client engagement, Employee communications, Event Planning & Coordination, and Administrative Support. The Business Operations Intern reports to the Director of the Speakers Bureau and provides support in a busy, fast-paced environment.

 Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in key data management, maintenance, and analysis to inform business strategy.
  • Provide support for client engagement efforts through assessing customer needs/satisfaction, designing strategies to increase reach, and direct interface with clients
  • Collaborate on event planning processes; create and implement strategies to improve client interaction and event success.
  • Assist in marketing initiatives and potential client prospecting.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

Communications Intern:

 The Communications department supports all of Active Minds’ communications strategies and marketing activities, both external and internal. This includes online communications, public relations, website and design and management. The Communications Intern reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing and provides support in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in the development and implementation of Active Minds’ communications strategies and marketing activities, both external and internal
  • Assist in the creation, editing, proofreading and design of materials ranging from website content, social media content, social media images, eNewsletters, press releases, internal materials, promotional materials, etc.
  • Responsibilities will include drafting basic public relations materials including pitch letters, media alerts, fact sheets, creating and maintaining media lists, media clip summaries, and other databases. 
  • Conducting research to support key initiatives and media pitches.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Excellent computer literacy, Internet and social media savvy with experience using Microsoft Office suite, etc.
  • Prior communications work experience is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of PR, corporate communications and media relations through coursework and/or other internships

Fundraising and Special Events Intern:

Active Minds, Inc. is offering an internship within its Development Department, which works to raise essential and necessary funds and donations for the organization. Interested individuals should possess excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills, as well as a strong passion to help spread the Active Minds mission. As an intern within the Development team, you will provide support for a full range of activities, including grant research and submissions, on- and offline donor communications, and special events.

 Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Special Projects Support: plan and attend special events (local); develop event invitation templates; oversee and help develop content for personal fundraising pages; establish major donor files.
  • Communication: follow up and respond to individual donor inquiries; write acknowledgement letters to online and offline donors; write content for newsletter and e-news;.
  • Design: Assist in creating new informational pieces for potential donors; design images for website and e-news; format web pages for new fundraising efforts
  • Research: determine potential grant and funding opportunities, as well as assisting with submissions; inform the Director of Development on industry-related opportunities; compile relevant news articles and published research about mental health.
  • Administrative Support: assemble partner outreach packets; assist with offline donor mailings; data entry.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Are you passionate about building mental health awareness so college students know where to look for resources, how to talk to a friend about seeking help, and how to maintain their own mental well-being?
