Sean O'Callahan from Active Minds at The Ohio State University says:
" In my two years with Active Minds at OSU, we have taken great strides toward creating a culture conducive to mental health, and it has been unbelievably rewarding for my chapter to witness the positive affects we are having on campus. Meanwhile, the growth of Active Minds chapters across the nation and into Canada has been such an inspiration, reminding me how essential this organization is to raising awareness for mental health. The successes of other chapters serve as constant motivation for me and my chapter to continue working towards the goals of Active Minds. Aside from being a leader in my Active Minds chapter at OSU, being a part of the national organization provided me the opportunity to work with talented and passionate individuals from across the country. It has been such a privilege to work with the national Active Minds office and witness firsthand how much they do for the organization. Having been elected to the Student Advisory Committee (SAC), I am also grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow SAC members, who are amazing student leaders in their own right. The experience has also allowed me to network with influential people in the mental health field and have my opinion heard. Right now, as you read this, there are individuals hurting, feeling like there is nowhere to turn, and afraid to seek help. You can provide direction, information, and support for those struggling. It may feel like an uphill battle, but every step Active Minds takes, pushes the cause forward. Active Minds has given me a voice and provided opportunities to develop skills essential to be a leader in our generation. I encourage you to commit to Active Minds and be part of something incredible as we work to change the conversation about mental health."

I joined Active Minds at The Ohio
State University unaware of how much my involvement would affect my college
experience. I had transferred from a small college to the largest
university in the country- a move that resulted in overwhelming amounts of
stress and culture shock. Having sought out help, I began to wonder how
many students experiencing difficulties utilized the mental health resources on
campus. To my surprise, the majority of students interviewed could not
even locate the counseling center. Because I truly believe mental health
is the foundation for well being, I knew this was an issue that needed to be
resolved and Active Minds provided the perfect avenue through which to accomplish
this goal.
