Lauren Lawler from Active Minds at Florida Institute of Technology says:
" I have been an active member of the chapter at FIT for the past two years and we've been working together to make a difference on our campus and be the voice helping change the conversation about mental health. Active Minds' message is to encourage college students to reach out for help and not be ashamed of doing so. An important part of the Active Minds mission is to create a culture where students know they are not alone, since everyone, at one time or another, is going through something. I am thrilled to be part of an organization where people come together to break the negative stigma associated with mental health and will forever hold Active Minds near to my heart. I have met many amazing people through this organization and my work with the SAC. I've had the pleasure of meeting members of different chapters and the Active Minds, Inc. staff, who are incredibly dedicated to the cause and are some of the most amazing people I have met. I am excited to continue working for this cause and spreading this message because, although short and sweet, it is incredibly important!"

My name is Lauren Lawler and I am a member of the National Student
Advisory Committee for Active Minds, Inc. (Yay Region 2!!) I am also a member
of the chapter at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Melbourne, Florida. Our
Chapter was formed in the fall of 2008, during my first semester as a student
in the Doctoral program for Clinical Psychology. Instantly, I was drawn to
Active Minds. The message was so positive and straight forward that I could not
wait to sign up and start changing the conversation about mental health on my
campus.
"Our chapter of Active Minds held its first
successful National Day Without Stigma in the fall of 2009, and due to the
success of this event, awareness in our school and the surrounding community
has increased exponentially. People stop
our members on a daily basis and ask about our organization, hoping to become
involved in raising awareness of mental health issues."
