National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

nspllogoIf you or someone you know is in crisis, please call 1-800-273-TALK1-800-273-TALK to be connected with a crisis center in your area.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention service available to anyone in suicidal crisis. If you need help, please dial 1-800-273-TALK1-800-273-TALK (8255). You will be routed to the closest possible crisis center in your area. With more than 130 crisis centers across the country, their mission is to provide immediate assistance to anyone seeking mental health services. Call for yourself, or someone you care about. Your call is free and confidential.

When to call:

Even if you're not sure that you're in suicidal crisis, please call the Lifeline as soon as you feel that you are in crisis. Trauma, depression, substance abuse, difficulties with family and relationships, and high stress are all valid reasons to call the Lifeline. You should never have to feel that your problem is too small or insignificant.

What to expect:

After you are routed to the nearest crisis center, you will speak to a trained crisis worker who is ready to listen to you. You will be informed of the mental health services in your area. You will never be judged for the problems you are dealing with; the crisis worker's goal is to help you make healthy decisions and feel safe. You will be asked some questions about your feelings, social situation, safety, and any thoughts of suicide or the person you are calling about might be having. Answering truthfully will help the crisis worker connect you to the resources you need.

yvonnegonzales"Active Minds gave me the strength and power to start going to counseling. I am proud to tell people that I have a counselor and now encourage friends to go to counseling. I help them understand that even if they don't  have a mental illness, they do have mental health that needs to be cared for.
