Why did you want to intern at Active Minds?

Mental health is very important to me and I wanted to work for an organization that recognizes the importance of mental health in college students.

What does Active Minds mean to you?

Mental health has been a major part of my life and I recognize how lucky I am that I have had access to quality mental health services. I think mental illness carries a stigma and I think it is important that these stigmas be reduced, it is really important for people to gain a better understand of mental illness. I think what Active Minds has done to work to reduce the stigma of mental illness while bringing awareness to these issues on college campuses is so valuable.

Favorite DC spot?

Anywhere on the Mall

In my free time you can find me ___________

Going on long runs or baking any kind of dessert

You are enough.

I love hiking and camping

Where do you go to school and what do you study?

I go to Penn State. I am studying Psychology and minoring in Sociology and Rehab Human Services.

Where did you grow up / where is home to you?

I grew up in Maryland. Home is wherever my family is & Maryland will always be my home.

Which team/department are you interning for at Active Minds?

Development & Operations

Why did you want to intern at Active Minds?

Because it is a big part of what I do at school & I wanted to continue to support an organization that is dedicated to something very important in my life, mental health and suicide prevention.

What does Active Minds mean to you?

To me, Active Minds is a stigma free zone, when it comes to mental health but also everything else in life. Everyone I have ever met through Active Minds have been some of the most understanding & least judgmental people I know.

Favorite DC spot?

Georgetown

In my free time you can find me ___________

Eating somewhere or drinking coffee with my favorite people or watching YouTube & Netflix.

Your go-to motto or catchphrase?

Don’t wish for anything, do it & make it happen.

Favorite way to unplug and re-charge:

Reading, writing, & music.

Stevens Institute of Technology, Science, Technology  and Society (STS) (graduated from Stevens in May) doing a post-baccalaureate program in psychology at Columbia University starting in the fall

Why did you want to intern at Active Minds?

Interning for Active Minds gives me the opportunity to be apart of an organization that is committed to improving the conversation about mental health. Empowering students and young adults to feel comfortable to be open about their mental health is something that Active Minds is able to help accomplish.  Working with Active Minds is giving me a chance to help others, just as so many people have helped me.

What does Active Minds mean to you?

The mission of Active Minds resonates deeply with me and I am grateful to have the opportunity to be apart of the Active Minds team. Knowing that I am helping to make a positive change is something that fills me with joy. I am happy to be apart of something that is having such a positive impact on college campuses across the country.

Grabbing coffee or walking around all of the different DC neighborhoods.

Favorite way to unplug and re-charge:

I like to take my dog Phoebe for walks and read. Usually I read a few different books at a time so I can jump around depending on what I feel like reading that day.

Why did you want to intern at Active Minds?

I wanted to intern at Active Minds because I’ve been loving the work I get to do as a chapter co-president and a member of the Student Advisory Committee, and I wanted to get even further involved in the organization!

What does Active Minds mean to you?

Active Minds has been integral to my college experience- I joined my chapter during my first week at IC. It showed me that we should be talking more about mental health during our day-to-day interactions with people, and it helped me find work that I am truly passionate about.

Favorite DC spot?

The Smithsonians (I know it’s technically more than one spot, but I can’t choose just one)

Watching Netflix (current faves: Queer Eye, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, & Nailed It!)

Why did you want to intern at Active Minds?

Because what Active Minds does is so important and very meaningful to me as a person with mental health issues

What does Active Minds mean to you?

It means being me, all of me; without being afraid of that & having the courage to keep going

Why did you want to intern at Active Minds?

I wanted to be an Active Minds intern because I wanted to help end the stigma on all college campuses, not just my own. I am very involved in Active Minds at school so that inspired me to want to take the next step and work for the organization.

What does Active Minds mean to you?

To me Active Minds is about stopping the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Until I joined I had never realized how much stigma plays a role in this field and how impactful it can be.

Georgetown Waterfront.

Hanging out with friends or listening to music.

Your go-to motto or catchphrase?

“You’re right” – – I know it doesn’t seem funny but its something my friends and I say to each other when someone says something weird and it cracks me up.

Watch New Girl or go on a long walk listening to music.
