Position Title: Development Manager, Mid-Level Giving

The Development Manager, Mid-Level Giving is a critical member of the Development team, owning all aspects of the mid-range ($1,000 – $9,999) donor portfolio including implementation of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Philanthropy and Strategic Engagement, the Development Manager, Mid-Level Giving will be a vital contributor to reaching and growing the Development team’s annual revenue goals.

Mid-Level Portfolio Management (50%)

  • Cultivate, renew, upgrade, and steward a portfolio of mid-range donors and prospects, exceeding $250,000 in annual revenue through direct personal outreach (calls, visits, events), as well as email and posted mail.
  • In collaboration with the Development team, plan and execute annual mid-level multi-channel fundraising strategies as part of the Development team’s fundraising plan.
  •  Lead in writing and preparing all mid-level mailings, including renewal packages, cultivation mailings, and personalized acknowledgements.
  • Maintain updated and accurate donor records and files in Active Minds’ Salesforce database.


Events & Donor Engagement (40%)

  • Take a leading role in organizing and managing logistics for events, in particular our annual New York and DC Fundraising events bringing together 200+ and 500+ community donors respectively; lead on sponsor solicitation and fulfillment, and manage external event planner.
  • Organize projected small and large regional cultivation events, conducted independently or in coordination with nearby program engagements such as Send Silence Packing and Active Minds Speaker events.


Additional Functions (10%)

  • Lead on the strategic roll-out of new methods of mid-range giving, including cryptocurrency and NFT contributions to Active Minds, and leading on customer service to donors interested in this contribution type.
  • Participate fully in Active Minds’ Anti-Racism and Inclusion plan, including serving on internal committees and continuing personal growth and knowledge gaining.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


About You

  • Passion for robust donor stewardship of those committing to changing the culture around mental health for young adults nationwide.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a willing capacity for phone and in-person cultivation in addition to the ability to well-constructed written correspondence, reports and documentation.
  • Exemplary relationship building and customer service skills.
  • Able to prioritize tasks, organize time effectively, and respond to changing deadlines; must have ability to manage multiple tasks at a given time.


You need to have:

  • Demonstrated success in soliciting gifts of $5,000 up to $25,000+.
  • 4+ years related experience in a nonprofit development environment, or a high level of transferable experience.
  • Fully digital literate, including Microsoft & Google products, and online meeting tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce and other databases a plus.


Minimum salary for this position is $70,000 and comes with a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation and sick time; paid federal holidays and office-wide mental health days; health, dental and vision coverage; and 401(k) matching. The starting pay for this position is equal to others at the same level throughout the organization. Candidates whose experience meets both the minimum and preferred qualifications may be considered for a starting salary that exceeds the current amount.
