pay it forward FAQ

Active Minds Speakers Bureau

share your Active Minds speaker with a local school

Active Minds chapters now have the chance to share their Active Minds speaker with a local school — for FREE!

Book a speaker for your campus event and you can “give” a second presentation to a middle school, high school, or community college in your area for no additional cost. (Some restrictions apply).

See below for frequently asked questions or contact us for more information.

The gift of one free speaker presentation with Q&A can be given to any local middle school, high school, or community college within your community. Four year colleges and universities are not included in this initiative.

Only Active Minds chapters in good standing can Pay it Forward. If your chapter is in our system as active or inactive, it will appear on the Chapter Network page of our website. If your chapter is not listed, please send an email to the Chapters Team.

If you’d like to start a chapter, see the Start a Chapter FAQ page for information.

No, you must book a speaker for a paid engagement at your chapter event before having the option to gift a free presentation.

The donated speech must be given by the same speaker that is hosted by the chapter for its event.

No, the chapter must put Active Minds in direct contact with an official from the recipient school (no third parties) so that all respective parties can discuss the logistics and timetable for the donated presentation.

The bestowed speech can only take place when the speaker is in your community for your chapter event (dependent upon travel arrangements and the timing of your event, the bestowed speech would occur either the same day, the evening before, or the morning after).

There is no additional cost for the gifted speech to either the Active Minds chapter or the school receiving the donated speech.

The speaker does not receive any additional honorarium—the speaker is donating the speech.

Active Minds does not receive any additional revenue from the gifted speech. This is a purely philanthropic initiative!

The Active Minds chapter may not ask the school receiving the free presentation for money to help pay for the speaker’s fee, travel expenses, hotel accommodations, or any other engagement-related expenses.

All details for the donated speech must be confirmed no later than four weeks prior to the speaker’s chapter appearance date.

No, the Active Minds chapter members are responsible for the speaker’s local ground transportation associated with the high school appearance. Be sure to schedule plenty of travel time between appearances if they both take place on the same day. If the chapter isn’t able to drive the speaker, the speaker will take a taxi, Uber, or Lyft and the chapter will be invoiced afterward for the cost of the ride.

Yes! A chapter member is required to attend the donated program and introduce the speaker using the scripted introduction provided by Active Minds. In fact, invite all chapter members to attend the donated event (after checking with the school administration, of course!), especially if they are unable to attend the chapter event. When you’re there, don’t forget to mention that they can start a chapter too!
