why choose Active Minds
Active Minds Speakers Bureau
About the Active Minds Speakers Bureau
For nearly ten years, the Active Minds Speakers Bureau has been the go-to source for mental health speakers who provide engaging, encouraging, and safe mental health stories and education to a wide range of audiences.
The bureau represents over a dozen speakers who courageously share their personal stories and experiences with mental health. Our speakers are experienced and trained to raise awareness about mental health and wellness, suicide prevention, and stigma reduction.
Research shows the best way to reduce stigma and increase help-seeking is through peer-to-peer outreach. These presentations do just that, through stories that interweave key educational messaging with real world experiences. The presentations are educational and inspiring, and often entertaining.
Active Minds’ mission is to remove the stereotypes surrounding mental health issues and encourage all people to seek help from a trained mental health professional if needed, and its programs are developed to better educate and to encourage people to seek help.
How did the bureau get started?
In 2009, Active Minds was approached by the National Mental Health Awareness Campaign to become the new home for their renowned speakers bureau, then known as The Heard. The official transfer happened on December 31, 2009. In early 2011, the program name was changed from The Heard to the Active Minds Speakers Bureau.
How does a speakers bureau work?
Speakers bureaus act as a resource for people who plan meetings, conferences, and special events. We use our expertise to guide event planners and decision makers as they determine who the best speaker is for their event. The fees for bureau services are included in the speaker’s honorarium, so there are no hidden costs to you.
The process gets started when you fill out a Host Application. After you have decided on a speaker and the speaker has accepted your invitation, Active Minds will issue contract and invoice documents, and handle travel details such as airline or train ticketing. As the host organization, unless otherwise negotiated, you are responsible for providing hotel accommodation (room and tax only) and local round-trip ground transportation from the airport to the hotel and/or event venue for the speaker.
