What is the V-A-R® and Social Connection Project? | How to participate | Benefits | Support
It can be really challenging to know what to say or how to respond to someone when they confide in you. Having a roadmap like V-A-R makes it easier to focus on helping the other person rather than worrying about saying the ‘right’ thing.
About the V-A-R® and Social Connection Project
In partnership with Eventbrite, Active Minds is proud to engage chapters at universities and colleges throughout the United States in a unique and first time event opportunity. The V-A-R® and Social Connection Project is aimed to support young people in being more socially connected using the V-A-R® Validate-Appreciate-Refer framework. This opportunity begins in September 2022 through October 2022. Your chapter could benefit from participating by the ways listed below.
As part of the V-A-R® and Social Connection Project, chapters will be expected to:
- Host a one hour peer facilitated event using the V-A-R® Validate-Appreciate-Refer curriculum and guide book.
- List the event and register attendees on Eventbrite.com (in addition to your individual campus event posting/promotion policy).
- Post about the event on your chapter’s social channels using the unique hashtag #sociallyconnected #activeminds at least three times.
- Report regularly on the progress of your work, including: photos, videos, social media tracking, testimonials, event numbers, and more via Active Minds Student Slack Network. Your chapter reps will be added to a private slack channel dedicated to discussions surrounding this program.
The chapters participating campus in the V-A-R® Event Program will receive:
- A chapter mini-grant of $1,000 to be used for event food, operations, incentives, giveaways and event-specific promotion.
- Stipend of $175 and Active Minds swag bundle for up to two (2) chapter leaders responsible for event reporting, attendance tracking and meeting/communications with Active Minds National Staff.
- Access to all of the resources available to Active Minds chapters nationwide.
- Free V-A-R Certification (Save the Date Sept. 7 6PM ET).
- Professional experience in public health outreach, mental health advocacy, social media management and campus marketing.
- Unlimited technical assistance calls with Active Minds staff related to project scope.
- Access to Active Minds social media repository, including approved images, text, and guidance for social media posts.
- Materials and swag to support event organization and implementation.
***To qualify to be a part of the V-A-R® Event Program, chapters must be considered an “active” chapter of Active Minds. Active status is determined by chapter activity and reporting frequency.
