Zachary Levi Named Active Minds’ Ambassador for Mental Health

WASHINGTON, DC – May 21, 2019 – Active Minds, the largest young adult mental health advocacy group in the nation, today announced that actor and singer Zachary Levi has been named an Active Minds Ambassador. Levi – best known for starring as the titular character in the newly released Shazam! for Warner Brothers/ New Line Cinema and Chuck Bartowski on the hit television series Chuck – has been open about his personal struggles with depression, anxiety, and mental health.

“We are honored to welcome Zachary Levi as our ambassador,” said Alison Malmon, founder and executive director of Active Minds. “Not only has he been open with his personal story, but he has generously offered time and support to the Active Minds movement, helping to change the conversation about mental health for everyone. He exemplifies that it’s more-than-possible to live successfully with mental health issues, and that mental health is just as important as our physical well-being. We are delighted to welcome him to the Active Minds community.”

Zachary Levi has become a passionate advocate for mental health awareness. “Mental health is the most important thing we should be talking about,” said Levi. “As someone who knows what it’s like to experience depression, I want to assure others who are struggling that they’re not alone. It can be hard to open up and ask for help but facing my mental health issues head-on helped me crawl out of the darkness. I want people to know there is hope, help is available, and you will make it to the other side. I’m really proud to be part of the Active Minds’ movement, because young adults are at the forefront of change, and this work is close to my heart.”

Active Minds is the nation’s premier nonprofit organization supporting mental health awareness and education for young adults and communities. A recent landmark study by the RAND Corporation confirms that Active Minds has a significant, positive impact on student health and well-being by creating a supportive climate for mental health on college campuses. Active Minds is powered by a vibrant network of campus chapters located at more than 500 colleges, universities, and high schools nationwide. The organization is dedicated to supporting a new generation in ending the silence and changing the conversation about mental health for everyone.
